WATOTO CHURCH WEEK OF PRAYER & FASTING
13 - 17 JANUARY 2020

Hello Family, thank you for joining us in our Week of Prayer & Fasting. As a church, our theme for 2020 is THE KINGDOM OF GOD FIRST. So we would like to take some time, at the beginning of the year, to commit our plans to God.

Matthew 6:31-33: “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Important Reminders:

Prayer is simply pouring out your heart to God; making your requests known to Him with sincerity and conviction. In doing this, you connect with God.

Fasting is voluntarily abstaining totally or partially from food. This is for a specific purpose and in most cases, it is to grow closer to God. In doing this, you disconnect from the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life.

Most importantly, the effectiveness of prayer and fasting is in our faith in God to graciously answer our prayers. It is neither in the length of our prayers nor in how long we can abstain from food. So prayer and fasting allows us to disconnect ourselves from worldly distractions so that we can reconnect with God.

***Beware of your medical condition and choose wisely on how to get involved.

Monday 13th Jan 2020

Prayer focus: Gratitude for a new year, new beginnings!

Isaiah 43:18-19

God was affirming to Israel that He is the sovereign God who rescued them from Egypt. He says that was in the past and now assures them that He is doing a new thing which is even better. We thank God for all He has done in the previous years. And now we look forward to 2020 with the expectation of God doing amazing things for us. Things that will cause us to be refreshed.

Tue 14 Jan 2020

Prayer focus: Reflect the Culture of God’s Kingdom.

Romans 14:14-19, Colossians: 3

The Kingdom of God is experienced through how we live our daily lives. By making choices based on biblical principles and the character of Jesus, we reflect the culture of God’s kingdom. We have been called by God to live in such a way that we represent His kingdom here on earth.

Prayer focus: Grow and Defend Kingdom Territory

Matthew 28:18-20, 16:16-19

As believers, God has commissioned us to preach the gospel and we must do so in order to grow the Kingdom of God. As we grow the Kingdom, we must defend the territory of God’s Kingdom; because the kingdom of Satan is fighting for the same people that God loves. Therefore, we must fight any thing that contradicts the truth of God’s kingdom. We fight from the point of victory because Satan will not prevail.

Prayer focus: Blessings and Benefits of Seeking God’s Kingdom First

Matthew 6:33

Seeking God’s kingdom first and His righteousness can also mean putting God first in every aspect of life. By doing this we can expect the Blessing of God in every area of our lives. For example, eternal life, peace of mind, direction and guidance, financial provision, good health and so on.

Prayer focus: Recommitment and Dedication to God

1 Kings 8:61, Psalm 33:8-12

Luke 9:62 (NLT): “But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.”

In committing and dedicating our lives to God, we are saying that, “No matter the cost, I am not turning back.” As we get into 2020, let's forget all that's in the past and focus on living sold out to God and His purpose for our lives. There is no limit to what God can do with a life that is fully surrendered to Him.
